When the children were first diagnosed as autistic, I spent a lot of time buying and reading books. Some were fantastic and others not quite what I thought! Even now when I see a book discussing autism or children with special educational needs (SEN) I’m always keen to find out more.

I first came across Georgina Durrant on social media. She runs the blog senresourcesblog.com, she is also a qualified teacher and former head of Special Educational Needs in a Secondary School (SENDCO). Georgina also tutors children with Special Educational Needs, so I was keen to read her new book “100 Ways Your Child Can Learn Through Play.”

The book does exactly what it says on the tin, which I love. It gives 100 fun ways that your child can learn, whilst most importantly, they are having fun. The book is clear and easy to read and I love that it comes with suggestions as to what equipment you’ll need for each activity (something I can often forget to find). It also has a parent/carer tip at the end of each activity encouraging adults to have a go themselves or tips on how to make an activity more difficult.

There are lots of fab ideas including creating a Playdoh bakery, marbled art and making rainbow rice. It also comes with a skills section at the end of each activity, so you know exactly what your child is learning with each idea. I would say that the book isn’t just for SEN children, although I love that it is aimed at them. It’s a really fun and enjoyable book and gives you tons of ideas, without having to come up with them yourself!

It even comes with a shining accolade from Carol Vorderman no less who says: “As a parent of a SEN child, I’ve known how wonderful it can be but also how much help we need … this book is fun, interactive AND educational – great reading for parents like us!”  

It’s no surprise that the book has already received a host of 5-star reviews on Amazon and I highly recommend it.
