Unlocking The Power Of Neurodivergent Talent At Work

You may wonder why experience matters when you want to unlock the power of neurodivergent talent. After all, if you have a neurodivergent workforce surely that is enough? Sadly not.

If you are looking for a neurodiversity workplace consultant, trainer or neurodiversity speaker, make sure they aren’t just a self-proclaimed expert. After all what does being an expert even mean?

Hiring someone who is both actually neurodivergent AND has a wealth of corporate experience is key to creating inclusive workplaces that thrive.

As someone who is diagnosed as autistic and ADHD and has over 23 years of corporate experience, I have seen first-hand how embracing neurodiversity can positively impact an organisation and its people.

For me this mix of lived experience and real-world experience is crucial.
Here’s why…

Experience matters

Consider the neurodiversity trainer’s corporate experience when looking to partner or hire a neurodiversity consultant or speaker. Check if they have got relevant experience in the workplace. If they understand what it is like to grow and manage teams and if they know what it is like navigating the corporate ladder.

Identifying as neurodivergent is a must. It isn’t good enough for people to say they have trained and understand neurodiversity. If they don’t have lived experience themselves, how can they understand your neurodivergent workforce?

But remember it should not be the sole qualification of a neurodiversity expert.

When you hire someone with real-world experience, they will understand the nuances of the workplace and tailor their solutions accordingly.

When you hire someone with corporate experience, they will understand the challenges neurodivergent people face in the workplace and be able to make recommendations to help the organisation thrive.

Authentic expertise

Employing a consultant who not only understands neurodiverse conditions but has navigated corporate environments themselves, ensures a holistic approach.

Collaboration for success: By engaging neurodivergent workplace consultants with corporate experience, organisations can build stronger, more inclusive cultures.

Working together, we can create environments that empower neurodivergent individuals to excel, fostering diversity and unlocking hidden potential.
