Back To School With Autism Friendly WUKA's First Period Pack
I've been reading a lot about period pants. I've never been quite sure what I think about them, but having a daughter on the autism spectrum with sensory processing disorder, it's something I've started to think about and read a lot about. I'm a member of a number of autism groups and have seen them being discussed on there. So when I saw WUKA's first-period pack, I was really keen to find out more and they kindly set me a kit. Award-winning WUKA was created so that 'your daughter has a stress free start to their period'. They believe that a period should hold no teen or tweens back from achieving great things in life. It should be celebrated with pride.
Their first-period kit pack arrived beautifully wrapped in tissue paper. The kit is everything teen/tweens need to start their period with confidence and can be popped in their school bag so they are always prepared.
What is included inside the first period pack?
WUKA Medium flow Period Pants - 1, 3 or 5 Packs available (I was sent a pack of the black pants which are made from super soft organic cotton)
An amazing book about growing to love your body and embracing changes. A Girls Guide to Growing Up Great by Sophie Elkan. They also have The Autism-Friendly Guide to Periods book available on the website which we already own and love
A gorgeous hand made washbag with a zip all the way from Nepal. Perfect for carrying spare pants when at school or travelling anywhere else
My daughter is only 10 so WUKA kindly sent me some for my size instead. The pants were seriously comfy! They weren't as big and bulky as I thought, which is definitely a plus point. I don't know how I would feel wearing them with jeans etc - as there would be a VPL, but I would definitely wear them with skirts and dresses.
About the kit
According to WUKA's website the underwear will give your daughter confidence in lessons or sports. Their period pants will guarantee your daughter:
No stress
No leaks
No odour
Their award-winning period pants have an absorbent layer that can hold up to 3 tampons worth of flow. To wash them, you rinse them then they can be machine washed at 40° and line dry. Just don't tumble dry them or add fabric softener.
Environmentally Friendly
Most menstrual products contain single-use plastic which can take hundreds of years to decompose. WUKA period pants are an effective reusable product that can be washed and used again and again, helping women with choices of reusable and sustainable products.
According to WUKA's website in one lifetime a woman using traditional menstrual products will throw away over 10,000 of these single-use plastic based items to landfill. In just two years, the company has already saved more than 4 million tampons and pads from going to landfill through customers’ switching to us.
WUKA period pants are the perfect option to be environmentally friendly or if you just don't want to worry about pads or tampons.
Where to buy them
You can buy them online from WUKA or from Sainsbury, Ocado and Whole Foods.
